1. What is the job of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport?
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS) has the mission of managing and developing these sectors to meet the economic, social and cultural needs of Cambodia. The competencies and responsibilities of the Ministry include developing human resources, assuring quality through national policies and plans, and developing laws and regulations in relevant fields. To fulfill this task, the MoEYS is organized into general Departments and Institutions of Higher Education, as well as branches in each province capitals.
2. How was the Ministry established and how are Ministers appointed?
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports was established by law in 1996. The organization and functions of the Ministry are determined by a sub-decree of the Royal Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The Minister in charge is elected by the Prime Minister and appointed by H.M. the King. A vote of confidence from the National Assembly is required as well. All Ministers are appointed with the involvement of the Council of Ministers by royal decree.
