Press Release 2 CAMBODIA, SWEDEN and UNICEF UNITE to Protect the Education of Children Whose Schools Have Become Quarantine Centers
Phnom Penh, 24 February 2021 – Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS) and UNICEF
are working together to urgently respond to the learning needs of students whose schools are currently
being used as COVID-19 quarantine centres. Although the new school year began on 11th January, 13
primary schools, 18 lower secondary schools and 19 upper secondary schools in the north-western
provinces of Battambang, Banteay Meanchey and Oddor Meanchey could not open asthey are being used
as quarantine centres for Cambodian migrant workers returning from Thailand. This is part of the Royal
Government of Cambodia’s ongoing COVID-19 transmission prevention efforts.
